Quality Mat Company provides two different styles of construction mats, both of which have specific uses and are made with the very best materials. So which one is best for your operation?
Interlocking mats and laminated mats share similar features. They both are built from 3 ply timbers of mixed hardwood or oak boards. A standard mat is 8 feet wide, 6 inches thick, and either 12, 14, or 16 feet long. Both mats are often called temporary roads or ground protection mats and are used as ground cover or access roads.
Quality Mat founder Joe Penland invented the interlocking mat in the 1970s, and since then has acquired two patents to protect the design that changed industries in the oilfield. The interlocking mat is made with timbers of equal length which join together in a configuration perfect for construction, contractors, and ground cover.
Laminated mats are used widely for construction, but also for roads, oilfields, and temporary roadways. Laminated heavy equipment mats are just as durable as other mats, but do not have the interlocking features of their close cousin.
Both of these options allow temporary roads to be constructed in hours, where it once took days or weeks. Built in three layers which are nailed in opposite directions, the mats are designed to bear and distribute the weight of heavy equipment.
